Life at Woodview Cottage - By Becky and Iain - (Vendors)
We are Beck and Iain and we have had the privilege of living in Woodview Cottage for the last 9 years.
We first discovered this lovely home in 2010 and were instantly struck by the potential it offered. Not only did Woodview come with a driveway but it also came with a bonus vegetable patch! The vege patch was a little rustic at the time and we have since fomalised the plot but it was ours and we have loved it. Sunflowers are an annual feature; the highest was just less than 13 feet (I have seed from that stock if you’d like us to leave you some?). There is an established herb bed to create the perfect kitchen garden.
The garden is the real deal at Woodview Cottage. You wouldn’t even know it was there from the street. It is dog proof and is ready for even the most playful of canines.
We have built a 3m x 3m summerhouse with a 1m verandah. We use this as an office because it is a lovely light space. The paving is only a couple of years old providing the perfect spot for a BBQ. We hosted a party for Iain’s parents’ birthday and seated 25 people comfortably on the patio.
We’ve worked hard to keep the original features of the house. It was built during the arts and craft period and you will discover two original fireplaces. The original window glass, internal doors and window handles add warmth to this home. We just love the idea that someone has hand crafted all these amazing features and that the original owners cared so much for this cottage.
It will take you as little 8min to walk to Marsh Loch on the river. You come out right in the meadows and it is delightful to take some cheese and a cheeky bottle of wine down for an impromptu picnic. The nearest paddock is only 4min walk and Iain enjoys the many local running tracks. Tesco is a 10min walk, the town center less than 0.8miles and you can comfortably make the station in 12min.
There are at least 4 country pubs within a few miles walk through paddocks for Sunday lunch. One of our favourites is to walk the up the river to Shiplake to the Baskerville Arms and then catch the train back to Henley.
Life in Henley-On-Thames is everything you can imagine. It takes just under an hour to get to London in the mornings and it is the perfect combination of town and country living.
The Royal Regatta and Henley Festival are annual highlights. Woodview Cottage is an easy walk to both events ensuring every summer is one you remember.
We have loved our time in Woodview Cottage however the call of my native Australia is strong for us and that is where we will settle next.
We wish you every happiness in your new home and the very best of luck as you build your own fond memories of this special place.
